Great little hidden gem off the freeway. I live in north county San Diego and was in Downey for a conference. Stopped by and the staff was very helpful with suggestions and recommendations. Food came out promptly and was very good. The restaurant was very clean and well kept it seems. Stop by and enjoy the business don’t just order to go or take out.

This place came highly recommended by multiple staff members of my accountant whose office is in Downey. Since I don’t live in the area, I never would have found this place on my own. Plus although it is near the See’s Candy building, the rest of the area is kinda plain and non-description.
I will now be visiting this place regularly. This place has some of best Greek food in So Cal! Lots of choices and abundant portions.
The staff was so kind – my 96 year old dad has not eaten much Greek food and was confused about what to order. The staff was patient with answering all his questions and he was delighted with his choice. (Lamb)
The restaurant is very clean, plays lovely Greek music and there is plenty of free parking. Since I live on the west side of Los Angeles, I rarely see free parking anymore.

Food was delicious. Especially loved roasted chickpeas in hummus. Quality ingredients and friendly staff make this a spot worth checking out. Will dine in next time – restaurant is clean and inviting.

I spotted this place while driving to See’s Candies and decided to give it a try, so glad I did. From the moment we walked in, the customer service was on point. We were greeted right away, and the whole place had a warm, welcoming, homey vibe.
The menu selection is solid. We ordered the beef gyro and the chicken souvlaki plate. The beef gyro was very tasty, the meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken souvlaki was also delicious, but the real standout for me was the hummus. It’s made in-house, and you can absolutely tell, creamy, warm, and honestly one of the best hummus dishes I’ve had.
It even brought back memories of Papa Cristo back in Mid-City LA, that’s how good it was. If you’re craving quality Mediterranean food, don’t pass this gem up.

Pita GR is a family-owned Greek restaurant specializing in street food. They have two locations in SoCal: Downey and Brea. My review refers to the Downey restaurant, but I suppose what’s served in Brea is exactly the same.
Centrally-located near Paramount Blvd., from the outside, it appears to be a small place, but once you’ve ordered, you gain access to a fairly large dining room. It’s modestly decorated, but it’s very clean and well-kept.
The food is what you’d expect from a similar restaurant, but it’s generally more authentic and fresh. And the prices are more than reasonable. If you order lamb meat, that’s what you get, and not the typical lamb/beef mix typically served in other Greek fast food restaurants. If you don’t like “street style,” you can also get your order on a plate, with an additional salad, for a modest price increase.
The quality of the food was excellent. The pita was fresh and fluffy, the meat was savory and well-balanced (you typically get a ton of salt in other places), and the (presumably) home-made tsatziki was very creamy and not loaded with garlic. Service was prompt and corteous.
Highly recommended.
